Day 5 - Santorini

We anchored at Santorini at 7am - the island is the edge of a multi-thousand-year-old volcanic crater with white towns on the 100 to 200 meter high cliffs. The ship was located just off the steep crater below the main town of Fira (seen at the top of the crater). We had signed up for an excursion to the picturesque town of Oia - first we sailed to a port on the south side of the island - the road from the port went very steep uphill. In Oia we walked around the city - stunningly beautiful buildings, churches and windmills as well as a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea. After that we drove to the island's capital Fira. After a short ride through town, we took the funicular down to the old harbor and from there a tender boat out to Jewel of the Seas, anchored just below Fira.
